Look Down Not Up explores a 2022 trek by scientists and citizen/scientists to discover and document the mushrooms in the Solukhumbu region. The film examines the work of Dr. Shiva Devkota, and his on-going efforts to educate indigenous populations in the region about the life-threatening problems associated with mushroom poisoning. Featuring interviews with leading mycologists from the United States, and Environmentalist Karna Sakya, the film explores both the scientific and personal journeys of its participants. In addition, the film demonstrates the off-season potential for mushroom tourism
in Nepal.
The film was beautifully photographed by documentary filmmaker, Alok Siddhi Tuladhar in Kathmandu city and Eastern Nepal regions including Sagarmatha National Park, and accompanied by an original soundtrack by the classical ensemble Surendra Sur-Sudha. Directed and written by Yehuda Goldman.
